Newer machines cut the electricity used by fifty percent when compared with the older models.  These machines have also been compacted for use in more spaces so it is not necessary to buy more than one unit for a space. It also acts as a dehumidifier which reduces the amount you would need to pay for another machine to do this task.

Newer technology in portable air units has allowed for a reduction in humidity and allergy causing particles. It can re-circulate the cooled air providing a much cleaner output. Portable units work in much the same way as a window unit as it circulates the room air over cooled coils to make the temperature lower. The cool air can only go back into the room it came from through the air ducts.

Portable air conditioners have some of the most advanced electronic controls to allow the user to set the room temperature they prefer, the speed of the blower, the time it should start and stop, and whether it is to dehumidify, heat, or cool the room. Hand held remotes are also a common part of the portable air conditioning units for easy changes in any of the settings. Some models have built-in air cleaners with charcoal filters and rotating louvers to move the cool air throughout the space evenly.
